This week at Camp Warner Bros. we’re experimenting with hands-on science fun. Combining color mixing with patient observations makes for a sweet treat to go along with Steven Universe: The Movie!
Hey Camp Directors! Before we get into this week’s project, it’s EXTREMELY important for you to be aware of the fact that this camp activity requires adult supervision.
Save the Earth and bring peace to your galaxy with this exclusive Steven Universe’s “Crystal Gem” Candy Recipe.
The Science Behind Crystal Gem Fun:
After a period of time, the solution begins to cool, causing the water to slowly evaporate from the solution. Observing the evaporate of the water from the solution will demonstrate the transformation as the solution becomes saturated with sugar. The sugar molecules begin to grow along the string, forming candy crystals, molecule by molecule!
Extra Science Fun
Prepare two separate jars of candy.
– Jar
#1 – Form your “Crystal Gem” candy by rolling your string in water and sugar.
– Jar
#2 – Don’t prep your string with sugar before growing.
Observe whether using seed sugar crystals effects the growth rate of your “Crystal Gem” candy.
