When I was growing up I remember seeing Cinderella for the first time, and hoping that I would have a fairy godmother.

I remember when I first got a chance to meet Cinderella at Disney Land; it is one of the most memorable events in my life.

On June 20th 2019,  guests were invited to a “mini-ball” held at the Library of Congress in honor of the Disney film “Cinderella.” The event featured a costumed Cinderella character, who descended the library steps to the cheers of a crowd of children and adults, including some members of Congress and their families.

When the guests arrived, they got the opportunity to see the magical movie.  After that we were present for a little ceremony officiated by the 14th Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden. She presented the Director of Disney Animation Research Library, Mary Walsh with the official certificate of induction.

Mary Walsh spoke about how Cinderella’s message of perseverance and resiliency through many hardships still rings through to this day. Cinderella never let the negativity around her change who she was and still treated others with kindness and respect. What a message, that rings through today. We need to be kind to everyone around us. Cinderella never lost sight of the fact that you must be humble and kind and in the end those characteristics would benefit you more than having things handed to you.

After the ceremony, Cinderella posed for pictures with a long line of children and adults. For guests seeking to create their own fairy tale images, there were a series of photo backdrops, including one that gave guests the chance to slip their feet into a replica glass slipper.

About Cinderella

The timeless animated classic centers on kind and hardworking Cinderella, who is ordered around by her cruel stepmother, her awful step-sisters —even the big clock in the church tower tells her when to start another day of drudgery. But they can’t stop her from dreaming, and Cinderella has faith that someday her wishes will come true. When an invitation to the royal ball arrives, Cinderella is sure her time has come—until her stepsisters, with the encouragement of her stepmother Lady Tremaine, tear her gown to shreds. Just when Cinderella believes all is lost, her Fairy Godmother appears, and with a wave of her wand and “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo,” transforms an ordinary pumpkin into a magnificent coach and Cinderella’s rags into a gorgeous gown, then sends her to the Royal Ball. But Cinderella’s enchanted evening must end when the spell is broken at midnight. It will take the help of her daring animal mice friends and a perfect fit into a glass slipper to create the ultimate fairy tale ending.
