My Visit to Pixar Animation Studios for Incredibles 2 #Incredibles2Event-Archives Tour-Part 2

Pixar Archives Tour

This was one of my favorite parts of the tour.  We got the opportunity to see the Pixar Animation Studios archives.
Being able to tour the Pixar Archives was an unbelievable experience. The archives are super secure with all types of fire suppression, climate control, dust control, etc.
measures in place. It was so calm and quiet there that many of us asked how we could get a job there!

Everything that has significance to Pixar is stored in the archives. Newspaper clippings, maquettes, drawings, and more are treated with utmost care for future artists and generations of Pixar lovers. In fact, the animators on INCREDIBLES 2 used the archives to look at the original INCREDIBLES ideas. They had remembered villains that they’d already created for the original movie and wanted to see if they wanted to use those for INCREDIBLES 2.

I loved seeing these archives because it gave me such a sense of the history of it all. The work that goes into these films, and so much of it doesn’t even end up in the final version. It is so inspiring just seeing how ideas begin and change throughout the making of the films.
It is incredible to see original notes on drawings or sketches because it helps tell the story of the artists/directors/animators thought processes while they were working on a film. We had the best tour guides, you could tell how much they love their job and really know the history of everything a Pixar.

Architecture and Amphitheater

When designing the Pixar campus, one of the main features was to bring the inside out. You can see the brick pavers from outside follow through into the main atrium and large glass windows bringing in natural lighting. The design of the space over all is amazing, with large central meeting spaces and areas that can easily be adapted for multiple uses.

The above space was originally created for outdoor meetings, but that didn’t work out too well. Now they use it for family days and apparently the kids love it. We were told the kids love to run up and down the stairs. It is a great way to get your exercise in.

Even outside, meeting spaces are made in some places you wouldn’t normally expect. From a large out door amphitheater to a hidden tree house along the path between the soccer field and amphitheater. Artists and designers are encouraged to meet and work wherever they need to to inspire their creativity and from what we can tell, it’s definitely paying off!

Here are just a few more fun photos from my incredible time at Pixar Animation Studios.

Speaking of incredible, have you seen the newest poster and trailer for INCREDIBLES 2?

In INCREDIBLES 2, Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose super powers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.
